The tour lasts at least 5 hrs and it includes shopping and visit to some monuments in EUR. E.U.R. (Esposizione Universale Romana), is a modern business area of Rome, famous for its rationalistic architecture, it was designed and built in 1942 in occasion of the Universal Exposition, according to Mussolini plan to celebrate the March of Rome under fascism (1922). The celebration was cancelled due to the second world war and the buildings still under construction under the direction of Marcello Piacentini, were completed years later. Its white marble and the numerous columns remind us ancient classic Rome during the Roman Empire. The area is well connected to the centre of Rome by tube and it is situated south of Rome, on the way to Fiumicino Airport and to Ostia (ancient roman ruins and beach resorts), it hosts important events and international conferences thanks to its huge building; an elegant avenue full of shops and nice bars, an artificial lake with well kept green area all around makes minds and soul relaxing after shopping, plus EUR counts one of the most various amusement park among the best European parks not only for the joy of children but also for the adult’s curiosity.The tour is includes the following visits: |
1)Visit to Saint Paul church , Ostiense area. This extraordinary Cathedral is second only to S. Peter’s Cathedral (Vatican), and among the four important churches of Rome, that are: San Pietro, San Palo fuori le mura, Santa Maria Maggiore, San Giovanni in Laterano. Its ceiling and mosaics are fantastic so the portraits of all popes through the centuries, including the portrait of alive Pope Razzinger, the only illuminated, we can admire also an interesting cloister and the main altar, underneath lays the tomb of Saint Paul. The Saint was murdered after martyrdom, and was barbaric slaughtered in an area called “Three Fountains”, not very far from Saint Paul Cathedral on the way to EUR. Living the Cathedral by metro B (only one stop), getting off next station and catching a bus (3 stops) we can pay visit to an important and wide shopping store, where you can find wide range of ladies, men and children clothes. |
2) Three Fountains. In this area there are three small churches, each to remember the sacrifice of Saint Paul Martyr, as I already explain above, in fact each of the three churches, was built where the Saint’s head rolled down for three times, when he was condemned for no reasons. Inside the area there is a very interesting shop selling products made by the Monks, called: Treppisti”, in fact near by there is monastery; you can buy delicious chocolates and drinks, plus products of relevant effects and for wellbeing for the face and the body made out of aloe vera. |
3) Tower Guglielmo Marconi, Marconi Square.
Around the Tower Monument dedicated to the scientist Guglielmo Marconi, there is the entrance to the following interesting Museums:” Romanian Civilization”, which hosts samples monuments of imperial Rome, “Prehistorical and Etnological Museums Pigorini ”and “ National Arts and Popular Traditions”. |
4)Europa Avenue.
One of the most elegant Rome’s avenues, full of shops (great for smart and sportive clothes, shoes, jewellery, optics etc.) and bars (Tomeucci and Palombini; famous for the italian coffee and cappuccino), at the end of this Avenue, a step takes to a nice Church: Saint Paul’s and S. Peter’s Church. |
5)EUR artificial lake.
EUR artificial lake, is surrounded by a well structured and well kept park, wonderful for a walking among trees or for a nice and relaxing lake short trip on the boat or only for a quiet stop. |
6) LUNEUR.
LUNEUR called: “Luna park” is one of the most famous and huge amusement parks for children and adults, there are many and various playing areas and challenger games. |
7) A nice shop.
